The Gesäuse National Park is a slightly hidden gem of the Alps. Maybe not as well known and as vast as other Austrian parks, but no less beautiful! The peaks do not exceed 2500 m, but there is rich fauna and flora, wild river Enns and countless picturesque nooks.

Within three days in this location, if lucky enough, we will experience the beautiful sea of inverse clouds below us. We will try time-lapse, panoramic images, will take photos of wild water with long expositions. Like on the palm of our hands, we will have the entire national park. The company will probably make chamois, deer and marmots, and under good conditions we will experience the sunsets and the sunrises of the sun playing all the colors.

Preliminary program of the expedition

Day 1
Expected departure at 13:00 from Prague via Tábor, České Budějovice and Linz to Admont. Here we accomodate and depending on the weather, set off to take pictures of a sunset into a place called „the gateway to the national park“ – the incredible scenery on the Enns river.
Day 2
Early in the morning, we´ll take a walk along the river to take photos of sunrise, hopefully accompanied by a haze. Then we head to the village of Gstatterboden, the NP center. Those who are interested can visit the infocentre and then we all will head to the Buchsteinhaus hut (1546 m, approx. 3 hours, ↑1000 m). We can enjoy the trip at a totally relaxed pace with frequent stops (according to individual preferences) for wildlife photography. Early afternoon accommodation in the hut and from there already with light bags on the surrounding views, or to the summit of Grosser Buchstein (2224 m, approximately 2.5 hours normal way). The road to Grosser Buchstein is somewhat more airy and secured by chains, so it is purely individual. Evening sunset snapshots near the cottage, or relaxing with good food and drink. By the way, the Buchsteinhaus is famous for its gastronomy and it is worthwhile to taste it. In addition, the local chef and the hutlord are cheerful kicks, so we can expect some „Schlaftruňk“ as well.
Day 3
For those who will be interested, early in the morning shooting of a sunrise over the hut. If we are lucky, the infinite sea of inversion clouds spills under us. We will also try time lapse photography to move on the whole sea. Day after the descent from the hut we spend the wandering along the wild river and visiting the local waterfalls. We’ll try out long exposures to „blur“ the water. For the enthusiasts, there are plenty of opportunities to shoot rich flora. And if we do not have enough yet, we will visit Admont itself before going back to the Czech Republic, or stop at Frauenberg Castle. Then crossing Linz, České Budějovice and Tábor to Prague.

Other important information

Although this trip is undemanding and can be dealt with by everyone, we must not underestimate the movement in the Alps. It is therefore good to have insurance (e.g. Alpenverein). You need to have enough cash and do not rely on credit cards. The manager of the workshop is not a certified mountain guide nor guide, it is not organized mountain tourism but only a photo workshop in an alpine environment. The program of the workshop can be changed according to the conditions, weather and agreement of all participants.

1x in a hostel or apartment in Admont (approx. EUR 25) and 1x in a hut in a common multiple-bed room (25 EUR/night, for Alpenverein members 17 EUR/night). You can not pay by card at the cottage, so you need to have enough EUR cash with you. A warm shower is available at an additional cost of EUR 4.
On the way and in Admont we can buy anywhere, in the hut we can buy hot meals and drinks throughout the day. Otherwise we will eat from our own stocks.
